STARKVILLE, MS (April 18, 2025) – OCH Regional Medical Center (OCH) is committed to protecting the security and privacy of its patients’ information. The hospital identified and addressed a data security incident that may have impacted some patient records.
On September 6, 2023, unauthorized individuals gained access to as many as 67,000 files in OCH’s possession. The breach was discovered on September 14, 2023, at which point the hospital’s Security Team took abrupt action to secure the network and stop the unauthorized access. An investigation determined that the criminals may have obtained patient records containing names, social security numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, diagnoses, disability codes, account numbers, insurance details, and payer information.
To address this incident, OCH engaged forensic experts to strengthen its systems and determine which patients’ records may have been affected. Protecting patient information remains the hospital’s highest priority, and steps have been taken to enhance security measures.
Patients are encouraged to remain vigilant, monitor financial statements and credit reports, and report any signs of identity theft to local law enforcement, their state’s Attorney General, or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at IdentityTheft.gov.
As required by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), individual notices will be sent in compliance with federal regulations, and a notice has been posted online for individuals whose contact information may be outdated or incomplete.
OCH regrets any inconvenience and appreciates the community’s patience as the hospital continues working to enhance system security.
